Measuring and Reducing Carbon Emissions

Sport organizations and events are increasingly held accountable for their climate impacts, particularly those tied to energy consumption, supply chains, and fan travel—categorized as Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. To quantify and manage these emissions, SustainSport is developing models and tools grounded in carbon accounting theory, life cycle assessment (LCA), and organizational sustainability frameworks. Using mixed-methods research—including scenario analysis, geospatial data modeling, and primary data collection—we contribute to emissions baselining, hotspot identification, and mitigation planning. These efforts support sport organizations in setting and achieving science-based targets while enhancing their sustainability reporting and improving customer experiences.
