7/9/2020 - KidSport Summer Camps Update

 

After careful consideration, and because of the unique and unpredictable circumstances associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are regrettably unable to proceed and have CANCELED our 2020 KidSport Summer Camps sessions.  We will miss all the smiling faces this summer, and can't wait to see everyone back for KidSport Summer Camps in 2021.

If you had already registered for KidSport this summer, Ann Arbor Rec & Ed will reach out regarding refunds or transfers. More information may be found on the Ann Arbor Rec & Ed website, or email: cancel@aaps.k12.mi.us.

HEALTH & SAFETY PRACTICES

 

  • Daily questionnaire and temperature check for staff and campers.
  • Limiting the number of campers to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Mask usage.
  • Frequent hand washing.
  • Disinfecting equipment after each use.
  • Updated games and activities to encourage social distancing and reduced equipment sharing.
  • Utilizing outdoor spaces only.
  • Following up-to-date CDC and U-M Safe Kids on Campus guidelines.

About KidSport Summer Camps

 

KidSport Summer Camps offers children ages 4-13 the opportunity to learn and play a variety of team sports, individual sports, team building games, fitness and other physical education activities, along with swimming lessons, in a non-competitive and fun sports environment. The activities are age-appropriate and developed by experts in children’s physical education. KidSport Summer Camps are staffed by certified teachers, Health & Fitness and Education majors, University of Michigan students and athletes, and other highly qualified individuals focused on providing a first-rate experience for your kids!

Scholarship Information

 

KidSport strives to ensure as many children as possible are given the opportunity to enjoy our summer camp. Throughout the year, we offer KidSport Clinics to raise money for the Jeff Reese KidSport Scholarship Fund. We are proud to offer scholarships to children who receive free/reduced meals, or meet specific HUD income guidelines. The Jeff Reese KidSport Scholarship is designed to assist families with children meet the cost of the KidSport Summer Camps program. Scholarships are awarded based on the evaluation of the information, and how much we were able to raise during the year. 


FAQs

What is KidSport?

KidSport offers children the opportunity to participate in a variety of games, sports, fitness and swimming lessons. The activities are age and developmentally appropriate, and are developed by experts in children’s physical education. KidSport is staffed by certified teachers as well as physical education and education majors focused on providing a first-rate experience for your kids!

  • KidSport Morning (8:00am-12:00pm) for kids ages 4-13. Offers a variety of individual and team sports, fitness and team building games, and other physical activities-both indoors and out, and swimming lessons daily. 
  • KidSport Summer Fun (1:00pm-4:00pm) for kids ages 4-6. Campers participate in a variety of fitness activities, games, swimming lessons, and crafts.
  • KidSport Athletics (1:00pm-4:00pm) for kids ages 7-13. Focuses on developing kids’ sports skills rather than competition. Sessions include tennis, golf, basketball, dance/cheer, soccer, baseball/softball, martial arts. 

Is before-camp care available?

Yes! Before care is available Monday-Friday, from 7-8am. Registration is available on a weekly basis.

Is after-camp care available?

Yes! After care is available Monday-Friday from 4-6pm. Registration is available on a weekly basis. 

Are scholarships available?

Need-based scholarships are available for KidSport Summer Camps! The KidSport Scholarship is designed to assist families with young children meet the cost of the KidSport Summer Camp program. It is available to any eligible parent or guardian of children enrolled in the KidSport Summer Camps, who qualify. Are discounts available?

Yes! The early bird discount is available until April 1st. Multi-week discount is also available. For more information: aarecedcamps.com/camp-policies.

Are the children split up by age group?

KidSport Morning groups the participants by age:

  • Raptors (ages 4-5)
  • Sharks (age 6)
  • Cheetahs (age 7)
  • Golden Eagles (age 8)
  • Stingrays (age 9-10)
  • Rattlesnakes (ages 11-13)

KidSport Summer Fun afternoon sessions are for children ages 4-6.

KidSport Athletics afternoon sport-specific sessions are for children ages 7-13.

What is the counselor-to-child ratio?

1:8

How do I register?

We are unable to hold a spot without payment.

Do I have to sign up my child up for the entire summer?

KidSport is a weekly summer camp. You may sign your child up for as many weeks as you would like. We offer morning only, full-day, or afternoon only sessions.

Where do I drop off/pick up?

Follow the KidSport flags to the side of Tappan Middle School. Drop off and pick up is in front of the cafeteria, at the yellow KidSport sign. Parents can line up along the curb and stay in their vehicles. KidSport staff will bring the attendance sheet and take your camper to and from the cars.
