Q: What's one thing about your work that might surprise people or that people might not know much about?
A: I sometimes describe myself as a 'practical artist,' in that being a designer is about creating things that serve a specific strategic purpose, not just making things pretty. Whether it's a T-shirt, a social media post, or webpage, it has to meet its practical goal first — Has it communicated effectively? Does it help its users get where they're supposed to go? If not, it's back to the drawing board!
Q: What's the most meaningful or satisfying aspect of your work?
A: When you've worked hard and have a product that serves its purpose AND looks awesome AND the client is thrilled? No better rush!
Q: How do you balance your time between the demands of your work and personal life?
A: I sit all day, so when the weather permits, I enjoy walking the 1.6 miles home from SOK! It's fun to see more of the campus and clear my head from the day. I also enjoy group exercise classes to help get me motivated.
Q: Which states and/or countries have you lived in? Which was your favorite, and why?
A: Michigan and California for 5 years. California was gorgeous and great for hikes and sightseeing but also so crowded and expensive! Worth going, but maybe not to live.
Q: What's one fun or surprising thing about you?
A: I'm left-handed! South paws unite!
Q: If you could go on vacation anywhere, where would it be and why?
A: I have this dream where I live in England briefly, wear a lot of tweed, wander the Sussex Downs, and generally live my best life. It's going to happen.
