Q: Out of everything you're working on right now, what are you most excited about and why?
A: It's probably not a surprise that I am extremely excited to travel abroad with our students this summer on the SM Global Initiatives Trip to Western Europe. As someone who is passionate about our global opportunities, I am looking forward to seeing our students learn, cultivate a passion for intercultural exchange, and experience joy abroad.
Q: What's the most meaningful or satisfying aspect of your work?
A: I feel a greater sense of purpose when I am able to work toward inclusion and liberation for our students. I find meaning when I am able to learn, strategize, and work toward better access to study abroad. I also aim to have important conversations about social identity, power, and privilege with our students, so that they can be self-aware and respectful Wolverines abroad.
Q: How do you balance your time between the demands of your work and personal life?
A: Outside of work I recharge by spending time with friends and family, running, crafting, and going to concerts. I am a big fan of hyper pop music; I find a lot of inspiration and healing through the music of Kim Petras, Lady Gaga, Tove Lo, Charli XCX and Beyoncé (to name a few).
Q: Which states and/or countries have you lived in? Which was your favorite, and why?
A: Most of my life has been spent in the great state of Michigan! However, I have also lived in Russia, Germany, Chicago, and Columbus. My favorite place to live, besides Michigan, was Saint Petersburg, Russia. I studied abroad in Saint Petersburg for a year, and there was always something exciting to see or do; it is a beautiful place full of contradictions. I hope that Russia can be a place where we can travel to safely in the future.
Q: What's one fun or surprising thing about you?
A: I am both a Buckeye (graduate school) and Wolverine (undergraduate/currently), so I like to think of myself as a Blue Buck! When the Ohio State game comes around, I always feel at ease, knowing that either way, I win :)
