Q: Out of everything you're working on right now, what are you most excited about and why?
A: Probably the completion of our next internal newsletter with the Concussion Center. There are always new articles to write, people to interview, and stories to share. The newsletter is a big project, and it's nice to push it out there after all the work that goes into it. I'm also excited about incorporating more video content into our overall communications strategy.
Q: What's one thing about your work that might surprise people or that people might not know much about?
A: The variety of tasks beyond writing and speaking that come with a communications role. It often involves things like strategic planning, familiarity with all kinds of software for content creation, email campaigns, social media management, and analytics.
Q: What's the most meaningful or satisfying aspect of your work?
A: Getting to share skills or experience I've gained over the years with others who work in the field.
Q: How do you balance your time between the demands of your work and personal life?
A: I don't think I do a great job of balancing. I think it's more of a shift from one side of the seesaw to the other. I think the key to making it all work is being intentional about making time for work and for personal things, something I will continue to practice!
Q: What's your favorite thing about our school and why?
A: I have to say one of my favorite things (because there are many) about the school is the extremely friendly squirrel population that roam the grounds. A short time ago I witnessed one of the students taking a selfie with one of our furry friends and my first thought was, I wonder if he'll sit still for one more.
Q: Which states and/or countries have you lived in? Which was your favorite, and why?
A: Michigan and Wisconsin. I'd say that Michigan is my favorite. I love annual trips to Mackinac Island and Glen Arbor, all the gravel roads for biking, and the great lakes all around the state.
Q: If you could go on vacation anywhere, where would it be and why?
A: I like the idea of a cross-country trip over the course of a few weeks in an airstream or similar model travel trailer. An extended glamping trip of sorts.
My work involves things like strategic planning, familiarity with all kinds of software for content creation, email campaigns, social media management, and analytics — not just the writing and speaking that people might assume.
