About

Dr. Michele Bird is a clinical assistant professor of Applied Exercise Science at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology and has a doctorate in physical therapy. She is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist who possesses over 28 years of exceptional knowledge, skill, and experience in the field of orthopedics, specializing in chronic pain as well as evaluation and treatment of various orthopedic conditions, sports rehab, and women’s health.

Dr. Bird has been an anatomy and biomechanics instructor within the School of Kinesiology for the University of Michigan since 2018. This combined knowledge and experience has led Dr. Bird to provide high quality practical course instruction to the University of Michigan Kinesiology students. She is highly passionate about the state of the student and their growth and development during their academic journey. Dr. Bird feels a great responsibility to help facilitate the development of flexible and adaptable professionals that can navigate the ever changing landscape of the health and fitness industry. Dr. Bird also offers a hybrid private practice model of combined in-person and telehealth/remote service to deliver physical therapy and wellness services. This business venture has led to an NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) agreement with a Division III athlete. This has been a valuable and rewarding experience.

Areas of Interest

Student self-efficacy, pedagogical practices, reliability and validity of biomechanical tools and assessment measures, behavioral modifications in chronic pain, lifestyle medicine (chronic illness, longevity), and remote therapeutic monitoring
