About
Marisol Villagomez is a clinical assistant professor of sport management at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology, and a 20-year marketing professional with 18 years of experience in professional sports. Villagomez has supported teams and leagues with efforts to engage with existing and potential fans. In each role during her time in sports, she was tasked with reaching multicultural communities nationally and internationally, and in the process, she was able to create and develop key partnerships that made for unique collaborations with other sports entities and cultural organizations.
Villagomez is an active community member who has served on various organizations and boards that serve diverse communities across Colorado. As a result of her community work, Villagomez became aware of challenges that artists were experiencing post Covid-19 pandemic and together with a friend, they co-founded Catrinas en Mi Ciudad, a free outdoor art exhibit around Mexico’s Día de Muertos celebration. The event gave artists a platform to create and display art and it provided the organizers with an opportunity to educate the greater community about the holiday and its traditions. In its short existence, the event has become Colorado’s largest cultural celebration.
