Kinesiology Career Resources

Kinesiology Career Development is available to support graduate and undergraduate students through all aspects of career and professional development. Note: To schedule appointments with Brooke, Kelli, or Alicia, you must log into and create an account in Careers Kinnect, using your umich email address. If you are having difficulties, please reach out to [email protected].

Sport Management Immersion (SMI) & Career Development Coordinator

Brooke assists all sport management undergraduate and graduate students in their career development specifically focusing on resume and cover letter review. Brooke also serves as the point of contact for all Sport Management Immersion (SMI) program inquiries and coordinates all virtual and professional development engagement activities specific to SMI.

Sport Management Outreach & Employer Engagement Manager

Kelli works with sport management undergraduate and graduate students to assist in the overall goals of career development and planning. Meet with Kelli to discuss long term career goals, step by step career planning, interview preparation, networking, and job and/or internship search strategies.

Health Sciences Career Development & Employer Engagement Coordinator

Alicia works with the health sciences undergraduate and graduate students to assist in the overall goals of career development and planning. Meet with Alicia to discuss long term career goals, step by step career planning, resume and cover letter review, as well as graduate school preparation. 

To schedule a virtual or in-person appointment with Alicia, log into Careers Kinnect and select the appointment tab. Alicia also offers walk-in advising on Tuesdays from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in suite 2300 SKB.

Online Resources

  • Introducing Careers Kinnect! Careers Kinnect is a new platform making it easy for students to schedule career advising appointments, access career development resources, and eventually browse internship and job opportunities posted by employers looking to hire students and alumni from our school. We are happy to share that Careers Kinnect is accessible and compatible with any device: phone, tablet, or computer. As a University of Michigan student, you automatically have access to the platform and will simply need to “sign up for a new account” on the login screen upon your first visit.
     
  • Handshake: Kinesiology Career Development, in partnership with the University Career Center (UCC), utilizes Handshake as our hub for jobs, internships, events and fairs, and graduate and professional schools. Learn more on our Handshake page.
     
  • Kinesiology Career Tools (myumi.ch/yKORn) is an expansive online collection of 200+ career resources specific to the needs of Kinesiology disciplines, interests, and goals.

If you are a current student, you must be logged into your umich email account in order to view the resources. If you are a recently admitted Kinesiology student, you will have access at the beginning of the semester that you begin as a Kinesiology student.

Other Kinesiology Career Development Resources

  • Self-Assessments: Want to learn more about your strengths, personality, and/or interests? Increasing your self-awareness in these areas will help you make more informed career decisions. Schedule an appointment with [email protected]​ to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
     
  • Kinesiology Career Fairs: The School of Kinesiology hosts two annual fairs, the Kinesiology Career Fair and the IONM Career Fair. Attend these events to connect with recruiters from a variety of organizations. For more information about the Kinesiology Career Fair, please visit kines.umich.edu/kines-career-fair. Information about the IONM Career Fair can be found at kines.umich.edu/ionm-career-fair.

Mentorship

Kinesiology Career Development values the importance of mentorship for all of our students. Both our health sciences and sport management programs have access to alumni mentorship.

  • Kinesiology Health Science Mentorship Program: The Kinesiology Health Sciences Mentorship Program (KHSM) matches U-M Kinesiology alumni with students interested in health science careers. Alumni mentors can provide valuable insight into potential careers paths and give students meaningful advice. Additional information can be found at kines.umich.edu/khsm.
     
  • Kinesiology Sport Management Mentorship Program: The Sport Management Mentorship Program pairs SM Level 2 students with alumni mentors who have experience working in professional positions aligned with their mentees’ career interests. Alumni mentors provide valuable insight into potential internship opportunities and career paths. More details can be found at kines.umich.edu/ksmm.
