Three-time All-American halfback Dr. William "Billy" Taylor will be guest speaker at the School of Kinesiology event to observe Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 20, 2014.
Born in Hoxie, Arkansas, Mr. Taylor played three phenomenal seasons for the Wolverines under Bo Schembechler before graduating in 1971. But a series of personal tragedies, beginning just days after playing his final game for the Maize and Blue, sent his life into a downward spiral. Career setbacks, addictions, and encounters with the law brought Mr. Taylor to a very low point.
Yet he emerged, in 1997, to reclaim his life, eventually earning a doctorate from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. Today he is President and CEO of Get Back Up, a substance abuse facility for men, located in Detroit.
