To counter the effect of sitting too much, try the astronaut workout

School of Kinesiology Dean Lori Ploutz-Snyder is quoted in a Washington Post story about the impact of astronaut workouts.

Lori Ploutz-Snyder, dean of the School of Kinesiology, was quoted in the Washington Post article “To counter the effect of sitting too much, try the astronaut workout.” She discusses how long hours of sitting are physiologically similar to floating in space, causing our muscles, hearts, and lungs to lose function.

A way to combat this, according to Ploutz-Snyder, is starting the astronaut workout: a six-day-a-week routine consisting of high-intensity workouts of varying lengths on some days and incorporating moderate workouts (combination of weight lifts and aerobic exercise) on others.
