Colabianchi Gives Faculty Award Presentation

Natalie Colabianchi

Associate professor of Health & Fitness and 2016 Kinesiology Faculty Research Awardee Natalie Colabianchi will speak on "Examining the role of parks and neighborhoods on physical activity behavior: Past, present and future." 

Dr. Colabianchi is director of the Environment and Policy Lab, and holds a dual appointment as Research Assistant Professor, Survey Research Center, at the Institute for Social Research.


This presentation will describe a series of studies that have examined the role of parks and neighborhood design on physical activity behavior across the lifespan. In addition to reviewing current methods and findings, this presentation will highlight how new technologies can facilitate novel ways to examine these relationships.  Finally, the challenges of collecting and utilizing these data to establish causal relationships will be discussed.

The presentation will be held Friday, December 9, at 3:00pm, in 3040 CCRB. Light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Colabianchi is also part of a team recently awarded a grant for their project, "Unlocking the Potential of Big Data from Mobile Phones to Assess Urban Green Space Utilization." Details in the University Record$800K in research awards aim to address data science.
