The cheapest World Cup seats cost more than a week of wages for the migrant workers who built them

Sport Management faculty member Stacy-Lynn Sant is quoted in the Grid discussing migrant worker pay during the construction of World Cup venues.

Stacy-Lynn Sant, professor of Sport Management, was quoted in the Grid article, “The cheapest World Cup seats cost more than a week of wages for the migrant workers who built them.” Sant discusses the use of migrant workers building Qatar’s World Cup stadiums, saying, “There’s this other component of exploiting vulnerable, marginalized people in poorer countries which makes it that much worse.“ She also discusses whether Qatar will see any financial benefit from hosting the World Cup, noting that research suggests the costs typically aren’t justified.
