The U-M COVID-19 Community Sampling & Tracking Program is open to students, faculty and staff on the Ann Arbor campus. Initially the test will use material from a self-administered nasal swab or saliva test. This surveillance program, designed by experts from our School of Public Health, will help us monitor levels of COVID-19 in the community among people who are asymptomatic. We will use this information to better target interventions throughout the semester and as an early warning system for possible outbreaks. As school districts across the state make decisions about K-12 education this fall, the university recognizes that you and your colleagues with children may face continuing challenges with child care and work-life balance.
Throughout the pandemic, the health and well-being of our faculty, staff, and students has been our priority, and we remain committed to flexibility for faculty and staff faced with extraordinary circumstances. Everyone in supervisory roles should use discretion and flexibility during the coming months when determining employee schedules.
Many employees will continue to work remotely, but flexible schedules may still be needed to balance added caregiving and educational duties in the home. We continue to require that everyone who can work from home do so. Some employees may need to be on campus to deliver in-person services that cannot be provided virtually. We encourage supervisors to consider adjusted schedules whenever possible for employees who request them.
