"Live in the moment while you are there. Your mom, dad, dog, boyfriend etc... will all still be there when you get back from overseas. You have to fully embrace every opportunity that comes your way. If you are living with a host family, do everything in your power to develop a lasting relationship with them. They are a networking tool for you and if you stay on good terms, you will be able to visit them for years to come."

"Travel. Speak to your cab drivers, its the best way to practice your language and they are always willing to help you and teach you. Remember to do all the touristy stuff in your own city. Befriend the locals. Don't get stuck doing the same thing every night because its comfortable...try new things. Don't leave with any regrets. Travel!!"

"Make sure you have some extra money saved up to spend. There will be many opportunities to do things you may never be able to do again. Also research the country beforehand to know the exchange rate, simple phrases in the local language, etc."

"I think that my experience was especially valuable because I was able to live with a host family. I was really immersed in the local culture, and I think this enabled me to really learn about my environment. I would recommend that people put forth an effort to meet new people and not simply spend time with other people in their program."

" I think it would be great to see a program with a UM Kinesiology Professor taking a group of students overseas for Kinesiology-related field experience. Even though it can be benificial to gain some independence and go abroad without a UM community, it was very nice to have familiar faces on the trip including Professor Leontis who was an approachable resource for details of the sites we visited." - Kelsey Hewitt

"Save up money before you go, because you never want financial concerns holding you back while abroad. Also, make the most of your coursework. Just because you are in a foreign country doesn't mean that you won't receive a good education. Too many study abroad students put little value on coursework. If you have a choice, live in the dorms."
