Faculty Travel Information


Kinesiology faculty members are invited to apply for travel funds to present their research findings at conferences each year. Faculty members are also strongly encouraged to apply for travel funds from Rackham, particularly for international travel. Travel fund requests should be made in early fall for travel planned throughout the academic year. Details regarding allowable expenses are given in the Kinesiology Faculty and Staff Handbook. To expedite authorization of travel funds and reimbursement of travel expenses, please follow the procedures listed below.

Before You Travel

1. Apply for travel funds from Kinesiology

a. Create or modify a travel request

b. Check the status of a travel request

2. Apply for travel funds from Rackham

a. Dean's Discretionary Funds for Faculty Support Form

b. Example letter to Rackham

3. Upload required documents, including:

a. Documentation of paper acceptance

b. The Notice of Travel Plans Form is required for all work-related travel. For assistance with charging registration, lodging and airfare expenses to a Division P-card, contact the faculty support staff member in your building (CCRB or Observatory Lodge).

c. the Kinesiology International Travel Form no later than one week prior to your trip (required only if you are traveling outside the U.S.).

4. For international travel:

a. Register with the U-M International Travel Registry

b. Consult the U-M International Travel Guidelines

c. Consider buying Travel Abroad Health Insurance.

While You Are Away

Save all of your receipts — receipts are required for reimbursement of ALL travel expenses, and itemized receipts are required for meals. For more details see the Faculty and Staff Handbook section on travel.



After You Travel:

Submit receipts within 30 days of travel. Submit Kinesiology Travel Expense Report to the faculty support member in your building (CCRB or Observatory Lodge).

Expedite reimbursement by completing your own expense report.
