Center for Human Motor Research (CHMR)

General Information

The Center for Human Motor Research (CHMR) serves as a coordinating structure for faculty and students with common research interests in the area of human motor control. The overall research focus is the control, adaptation and learning of voluntary movement in healthy individuals across the lifespan and in individuals with motor disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, stroke, cerebral palsy, or Down syndrome. CHMR research emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach which combines neurophysiological, biomechanical, developmental and clinical perspectives in the study of motor control issues.

CHMR faculty have formed collaborative links with other researchers within the local university community and with other research universities. The Center also sponsors the CHMR Seminar Series which hosts distinguished speakers each semester.

Besides promoting interdisciplinary research, CHMR also coordinates a variety of educational programs for both graduate and undergraduate students in CHMR. The CHMR laboratories are located in the Division of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan on the Ann Arbor campus.
