PE Workshop

This annual event for Physical Educators is held the first Friday of December. Workshop topics range from innovative approaches in teaching activity classes to applying NASPE standards to curricula to using technology in class.

Summer Discovery

For high school students interested in business & sports.This program is offered to high school students interested in Sport Management, in cooperation with the University of Michigan, Division of Kinesiology and Muskier Tours. If you are interested in business and have a passion for sports, take a time-out during the summer and make Kinesiology's Sport Management Program your goal. Students get a chance to score big during vacation when they learn a new game -- the sport industry.

It’s a pre-college enrichment course. Students will be challenged to learn aspects of managing Olympic, professional, and college sporting events. Topics include: sponsorship and licensing, market economics, labor relations, and television broadcasting.

Field experiences. Tentatively scheduled field experiences include a tour of the Palace of Auburn Hills ( "Home of the Pistons"), and an enlightening session with U-M's Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Media Relations. It's the ultimate grand slam - great school, awesome program, skilled faculty, and active learning.

U-Move Fitness

Throughout the year U-Move Fitness offers a variety of exercise classes to promote a healthy lifestyle, while providing teaching and leadership opportunities for Kinesiology students and other qualified individuals. U-Move also gives Kinesiology faculty and students opportunities to conduct research related to physical fitness, activities and behaviors.

Kinesiology Aquatics Instruction and Safety Courses (formerly Kinesiology Aquatics Camp)

During U-M's Spring Term KAISC offers U-M students and the public (minimum age 15 years for Lifeguard Training, 16 years for Water Safety Instruction) the opportunity to earn American Red Cross certifications, including: Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor.

Successful participants in Lifeguarding will receive certificates in: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Blood-Borne Pathogens, Oxygen Administration, Waterfront Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Management.

Lifeguard Instructor candidates learn to teach Lifeguard Training. They learn to: plan and organize the course; provide information and skill development in lifeguard rescues, first aid and CPR; and how to evaluate participants' performance. Successful candidates will be awarded Instructor Authorization.

Water Safety Instructor candidates learn to instruct: progressive swim lessons from Infant/Preschool through Advanced Swimming Skills; Safety Training for Swim Coaches; Community Water Safety; Basic Water Rescue; and Longfellow's Whales Tales Program. Successful candidates will be awarded Instructor Authorization.

KidSport and Camp Explorations

Offered mid-June to mid-August, KidSport is a noncompetitive physical education program designed for children ages 5-12. KidSport campers participate in a variety of activities each day: swimming (with instruction); movement games; team sports; and health and safety instruction. Experts in children's physical education design the activities for each group.

Camp Explorations sessions are held at the Exhibit Museum of Natural History

Each year KidSport hires land and aquatics staffers -- earn academic credit or pay! For more information or to apply, contact Kerry Winkelseth.

U-Meet the Athlete

U-Meet the Athlete is a program designed to give youths ages 5-12 the opportunity to meet University of Michigan student-athletes and participate in sport mini-clinics with them. Our goal is to have fun while: 1) mastering the fundamentals of a sport, 2) staying in school, and 3) staying healthy. U-Meet the Athlete has expanded and now features thirteen varsity teams. This program runs from October through April each year.

U-Go Girls

U-Go Girls is a nonprofit organization operated by University of Michigan Faculty and Physical Education majors that educates 6-12 year-old girls about the benefits of participating in sports. UGG offers weekly basketball, soccer, and softball instruction (2 weeks for each sport) each winter.

U-Go Girls Mission Statement

  • To give girls the opportunity to play sports in a nurturing environment under the guidance of positive role models;
  • To share the benefits of sport participation to a diverse group of girls;
  • To give girls the opportunity to gain the self-confidence needed for success in developing both sports and life skills.
