What are your future career goals?
Growing up, I always dreamt of working in the management side of professional sports. As a manager, you may not be performing on the athletic field, but there is a constant pressure to field a successful team. I plan on attending law school after my four year at U of M and hopefully I can parlay my experience and knowledge gained through the sport management program into a management job working for a National Football League team. |
Why did you choose University of Michigan to study sport management?
Simply put, the opportunity to receive an education from one of the best universities in the nation weighed most heavily on my decision. After attending Campus Day in the winter of my senior year in high school, I instantly knew that the University of Michigan, and specifically Kinesiology, was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. After talking to the Kinesiology staff and professors I felt instantly welcomed into the Kinesiology family.
What activities are you involved with on campus?
Some of the positions that I hold on campus are Kinesiology Peer Advisor, Kinesiology Peer Mentor, Kinesiology Ambassador, a Representative for Sport Management in Kinesiology Student Government, a member of the Sport Business Association, a Michigan Daily Sports writer, and this upcoming year I will be serving as an intern for the Athletic Department. Last fall I also coached a YMCA 6-8 year old youth flag football team. I started off as someone who wanted to get involved but didn’t really know how, so I just tried a bunch of different activities and surprisingly enjoyed a vast majority of them.
How would you describe the culture in Kinesiology?
The best way I can explain Kinesiology is that it provides a family environment. All the students and professors develop special bonds through collaboration on research in the classroom. I look forward to my Kinesiology classes every week because the class is taught at a much more personal level, but also the professors care so much about their students. If someone is struggling in a class, the professors are always there to lend a helping hand through extra office hours. In my opinion, the word is out-- Kinesiology is no longer the best-kept secret at the University of Michigan.
