“I enjoy the fact that in Kinesiology you get real-life exposure to things you can do with your major.”
Lola -- Movement Science '10
Novi, MI

Lola wants to be a pediatric physical therapist.

Why did you choose to study Kinesiology?
I plan on attending physical therapy school.

Why did you decide to study Movement Science in Kinesiology?
Throughout high school I was always interested in science, but more so the human body. Looking at the Movement Science curriculum I thought that there was much more of an opportunity for me to get exposure to these types of classes in Kinesiology than in any other school with the pre-med/pre-physical therapy route in mind.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
I plan to apply to go to physical therapy school to become a pediatric physical therapist, specializing in children with developmental disabilities.

What activities are you involved with on campus?
University of Michigan Dance Marathon (UMDM), Green Greeks, UM Women's Club Cheerleading, and I am also a PULSE (Peers Utilizing Leadership Skills for Education) rep.

How would you describe the climate in Kinesiology?
I would describe it as very personal. There's much more direct contact between student and faculty members on a daily basis. The class sizes are much smaller so you feel more comfortable asking questions and speaking up in class. And the further you get into the major the more people you begin to recognize in your classes and get to know.

I enjoy the fact that in Kinesiology you get real-life exposure to things you can do with your major. From Sport Management internships and Physical Education student-teaching, to Athletic Training clinicals and Movement Science labs, I feel like Kinesiology students gain an edge because of these opportunities. I've always enjoyed my Kinesiology classes a little bit more than some of my bigger lecture hall classes with Graduate Student Instructors because I feel like I'm getting a lot more out of them.
