“I chose Kinesiology because Movement Science’s three modules—biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor control are all extremely relevant to the human body.”

Elisabeth -- Movement Science '11
Troy, MI

Elisabeth studies movement science in preparation for medical school.

What are your future career goals?
Upon graduation from the University of Michigan, I hope to attend medical school and plan to become a practicing physician. Being an avid distance runner, I am especially interested in sports medicine; however, I enjoy exploring all of my options through volunteer work in hospital and health centers.

Why did you choose Kinesiology as preparation for medical school?
As a pre-medical student, I am especially interested in the health sciences. I chose Kinesiology because Movement Science's three modules--biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor control--are all extremely relevant to the human body. Courses for these modules, as well as courses in areas like anatomy and physiology, are unique to Kinesiology. Also, it is convenient that many of the course requirements for Movement Science overlap with medical schools' requirements. Another thing I love about Kinesiology is its small size. Because of it, students, faculty, and staff are able to forge stronger, personal relationships amongst each other. Additionally, such relationships make invaluable research and study abroad opportunities available to many.

What activities are you involved with on campus?
One thing I love about Michigan is that it has countless organizations and opportunities to meet virtually all students' varying interests. Within Kinesiology, I am involved with the Kinesiology Ambassadors, a program which allows me to share my perspective with prospective students and families to assist them in making the decision to enroll in Kinesiology. Outside of Kinesiology, I am involved with the Pre-Med Club, an organization that coordinates medically-related events, volunteering, and fundraisers. Additionally, I am a part of Michigan's Greek life, as a member of one of the University's Greek sororities.
