Students: Mentor incoming first-year and transfer students during our orientations this summer and fall! OUSA is recruiting Kinesiology Peer Advisors to assist with registration, answering questions, and sharing their own student experiences.
Description
Peer Advisors are current Kinesiology students, in all years and majors, who assist the Office of Undergraduate Student Affairs (OUSA) with Summer and Fall Orientation for incoming first-year and transfer students. Peer Advisors also sometimes work with additional events throughout the school year. This is a paid position (including paid training, which takes place primarily in early May).
Peer Advisors play a crucial role within Kinesiology -- they provide one of the first points of contact for new students with the University and the Kinesiology community. Peer Advisors' student experiences inform and inspire the planning and implementation of Orientation each year. The time commitment can vary depending on availability within June - August, but the schedule will accommodate spring/summer coursework, internships, and other jobs if necessary.
General duties, roles and tasks may include:
- Assist students with backpacking and course scheduling
- Provide unique perspectives on student life at Michigan and in Kinesiology
- Facilitate discussion and deliver information for groups of 10-20 students
- Work in tandem with OUSA professional staff to assist with the registration process
- Engage with students in a one-on-one setting to answer questions and devise creative solutions for student issues and concerns
- Lead brief walking tours of Kinesiology buildings
- Offer tips and best practices for academic success
- Create a welcoming and friendly environment
- Promote and encourage relationship-building between orientation participants
