Laboratory:
Areas of Interest
Short Description:
Within exercise endocrinology: the hormonal, metabolic, and psychophysical consequences of acute exercise-associated energy expenditure; also the hormonal, metabolic and cardiovascular effects of training in aging. My teaching relates to my research interests.
“Research scholarship best describes my central career focus.
“My research explores hormonal and metabolic mechanisms involved in partitioning of nutrient energy among growth, body mass and energy storage depots, and exercise and metabolic energy expenditure. Undergraduate and graduate students can learn endocrine methods and get involved in analysis of exercise-induced endocrine changes in my Exercise Endocrinology Laboratory.”
Current active research topics:
- Control of blood glucose by timing of meals and exercise and by nutrient energy
- Hormonal regulation of energy balance at rest and during exercise
- Hormonal and mechanical stimulation of bone mineral in postmenopausal women.
