Get Involved!
Become more involved in the Kinesiology community and student life through participation in a Kinesiology Student Group or a Kinesiology Service Group.
A Kinesiology Student Group is an organization that fits within the MSA (Michigan Student Assembly) definition of a student organization, which is defined as a group that it is based on, centered around, led, governed, and directed by students. Student groups work towards a mission established by the group, such as professional development or community betterment.
A Kinesiology Service Group is an organization that, although possibly conceived by students, is created by a Kinesiology faculty or staff member, and works towards a mission established by Kinesiology administration, such as recruitment or curriculum development.
Kinesiology Student Groups
Kinesiology Mentors
The Kinesiology Mentor Program pairs incoming freshmen with knowledgeable and enthusiastic upperclassmen, giving them the opportunity to interact with current Kinesiology students, other new students and faculty members. The Mentor Program is a great way for upperclassmen to give back to the Kinesiology community and welcome new students. For more information, contact OSS advisor Chris Strychalski.

Kinesiology Student Government (KSG)
The Kinesiology Student Government (KSG) is an organization that reaches out -- to current Kinesiology students, to potential Kinesiology students, and to the community.
This year KSG sponsored several activities, including a student panel discussion on Martin Luther King Day, which discussed racial bias from several cultural perspectives. They sponsored the Apparel Program and formed the Ambassador Program, which reaches out to prospective Kinesiology students to answer questions and address issues from a student perspective. They helped a needy family during the holidays, and staffed a booth at the Kid’s Fair for Health Awareness.
All Kinesiology students are welcome to attend Kinesiology Student Government meetings. Contact KSG President Melissa Mendelson for more info.

Kinesiology Ambassadors
The Kinesiology Ambassadors Program is an exciting opportunity for current students to introduce prospective students to “the best kept secret on campus” — the School of Kinesiology. Ambassadors project a positive Kinesiology image and in return gain valuable experience in public speaking, mentoring, and leadership. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Making presentations to prospective students, instructors and parents;
- Phone-outs to prospective and admitted students;
- E-mailing prospective and admitted students;
- Participating in Kinesiology, U-M campus, and off-campus events
If you'd like to know more, fill out the Ambassadors application. We look forward to hearing from you!

Kinesiology Peer Advisors
During freshmen orientation, peer advisors assist OSS by helping freshmen register for classes, answering any questions they might have, and helping to acquaint them with Kinesiology and the University. Peer advisors play a crucial role — their student experiences provide valuable input as OSS plans and implements orientation each year. (More info)
Another way to become involved is by representing Kinesiology on the Michigan Student Assembly. For more information visit the MSA site at www.msa.umich.edu/.
Also, check out the over 1000 other groups on campus by visiting Maize Pages or attending Festifall or Northfest.
