Kinesiology Campaign Council
Campaign Overview
“Making a Difference in Kinesiology”
Movement is the defining word for Kinesiology, and from its beginning as the Division of Physical Education over 100 years ago, to the formation of an independent unit in 1984, to the naming of Kinesiology in 1990, to the current status of Michigan Kinesiology, we have been moving forward.
This is a special moment in Kinesiology history, when we are making a difference as a leader in movement science research, when we are making a difference teaching in the areas of movement science, physical education, sport management and athletic training; when we have the leadership, faculty and staff to move to the forefront of our field. It is an exciting time to be part of the Kinesiology family, when we have the opportunity to achieve unprecedented success.
We must continue to enhance our resources in order to remain successful, and to uphold the mission and future vision of Kinesiology. The Kinesiology campaign goal is ten million dollars, and the campaign objectives that are established will make a major impact on Kinesiology research and scholarship for decades to come. Our campaign goals are to secure funding for:
- Endowed Professorship $2 million
- Four fully-funded graduate fellowships $3 million
- Funding for four centers $5 million:
- Center for Motor Behavior in Down Syndrome ($1 million)
- Center for Exercise Research ($1.5 million)
- Michigan Center for Sport Management ($1.5 million)
- Center for Human Motor Research ($1 million)
Our overall goal is for Michigan Kinesiology to remain at the forefront of the field. Our campaign objectives will provide stability and offer assurance that Kinesiology will be able to maintain high standards for research in state-of-the-art laboratories, which in turn will allow us to recruit and keep the most promising faculty members. It will allow us to continue recruiting the brightest and best undergraduate and graduate students and lay the foundation for their scholarly careers.
The Michigan Difference Campaign runs through June, 2008. We thank all of the donors who have made contributions to date, and hope that others will consider a contribution to this critical fundraising effort.
