U-M School of Kinesiology

Welcome! If you have ever been enrolled in Kinesiology, or in the School of Education (PE) prior to 1984, regardless of your graduation status, you are automatically a Kinesiology Alumni Society (KAS) member. The only requirement on your part is to keep us informed of your current contact information so that we can share with you our publications and upcoming events.

The first Kinesiology Alumni Society meeting was held on April 9, 1992, and it was agreed that the then-Division of Kinesiology would form a formal “Alumni Society.” Those in attendance were: Clare Canham-Eaton, Don Eaton, Ruth Harris, Dick Honig, Larry Katz, and Sheryl Szady. Staff included Don Dufek, Shelly Kovacs and Pat Materka.

As a Kinesiology Alumni Society member, you become part of a world-wide alumni network. We encourage you to keep in touch and come back to visit often.

The Kinesiology Alumni Society Board of Governors

The KAS Board of Governors meets four times annually. It has eighteen seats and members are either nominated by other Kinesiology Society members or have individually volunteered to participate. Teleconferencing is available, allowing long-distance participation.

The Board and Slate of Terms

All members (As described in Article III of the KAS Constitution) shall be eligible to serve on the Board with the following exceptions:

1. After serving two consecutive three-year terms on the Board, a member may not be eligible to serve on the Board for a period of at least one year with the exception of the non-voting staff members.
2. The chair has the authority to facilitate rotating members off of the Board if they are not fulfilling his or her Board duties including inconsistent attendance and/or participation. The removal of a Board member must pass a two-thirds vote of the members of the Board responding to a mailed and/or electronic ballot.
