Kudos to OSS —
2007 U-M Workplace Exemplary Team Award Winner!
A Winning Team (from left): Linda Burger, Angie Sullivan, Jennifer Knapp, Martha Reck, Shelly Kovacs, and Kim Elliott.
(From Workplace Awards page)
Each year, the Office of Human Resources takes nominations of staff members who have provided distinguished service, displayed exemplary teamwork or demonstrated outstanding leadership. A committee of peers selects the winners from among those nominated, and on June 7, 2007, Laurita Thomas, associate vice president of Human Resources, presented the awards to this year's winners and finalists.
The awards honor staff members who have made marked contributions to the mission and work of the University. The award categories are distinguished service, exemplary team, and outstanding leadership. Each individual award carries a monetary prize of $800. Team recipients divide $2,500.
This team is the administrative offices of academic and student affairs within the Division of Kinesiology. They serve 850 Kinesiology students, many prospective students and families, and faculty and staff within the Division.
Care and concern for students and their overall educational experience is a sacred value to each member of the team. That is the single most important factor in how this team went from novice to exemplary in just a few short years, never missing a beat along the way. They exemplify teamwork by supporting each other and feeling comfortable “trading” tasks within the team, knowing they can depend upon each other without question. Their collaborative team efforts have inspired their creativity and provided the confidence to push themselves harder and farther. Students and their parents appreciate the accessibility, sensitivity and professionalism of the staff. One of their nominees sums it up, “The OSS staff embraces the true concept and meaning of teamwork. The staff would be a great ambassador of this award and is well deserving of the recognition for their continued contribution to Kinesiology.”
