Master's Program: Sport Management Track
Mission Statement
The mission of the Masters Sport Management Track is to offer students diverse educational experiences that will prepare them for career opportunities in the multidimensional sport industry. This includes developing a background in areas such as leadership, management, marketing, law, and finance, as well as experiences that allow students to integrate knowledge from these diverse areas. Students of the program will develop skills to enable them to successfully pursue management positions in professional, collegiate, and Olympic sports, as well as related opportunities within the corporate sector.
Program Description
The program contains the key component of knowledge students require to successfully compete for careers within the sports industry. Students must complete at least 30 credit hours. The core curriculum for the sport management track includes 12 credits of graduate work in finance, marketing, strategic management and law, as well as a 2-credit integrative scholarly exercise and paper that focuses on sport industry companies, products, or current issues. Students also complete Philosophy of Science and Research in Kinesiology as well as one graduate-level statistics course taken in a unit other than Kinesiology. Finally, students will elect at least 4 credits of related cognate work in a unit other than Kinesiology.
